Combi Error Codes

Combi control panel

If you have a combi with the above control panel you may get a fault code come up if the heater has a problem. Depending on the nature of the problem you will get one of a number of codes.

The code will either start with an E for error, or a W for warning. An E code means that something has gone wrong with the hardware of the boiler and there isn't much that can be done without some professional help, but a W fault can normally be resolved with a re set once the issue has been rectified.

BUT, be aware that the heater may be saying that there is a fault, but it may be a fault with the caravan that the heater is reporting because it is sensitive to it.

Remedy fault  W 507 / 516 / 517 (gas supply interrupted)

  • Restore the gas supply, for example by connecting a full gas cylinder.
  • Leave the heater for 15 minutes.
  • Then when the flashing warning triangle has gone solid, scroll to it and confirm or delete the fault code by tapping the rotary push button. Please note that the first tap might only activate the backlighting of the control panel.
  • The heating then starts automatically if there is a heating requirement.

Note: If the fault 507, 516 or 517 is displayed in the heater's control panel, switching the control panel on and off does not help. This does not delete the fault, but blocks the heater for 15 minutes. The heater is also blocked for 15 minutes if the fault 507, 516 or 517 is deleted four times without the gas supply being established.

Fault E513H

This is a fault with the Over heat thermostat. It normally occurs when the heater is asked to heat the water on the HOT setting, and may be intermittent, but the system may be fine on the eco water heating setting or if the heater is just being used for space heating.

The fault can be with the thermostat its self, or the wiring loom that goes to the PCB.

Fault E255H

This fault refers to a connection problem between the heater and the control panel. The control panel has its own power supply so will operate when this fault occurs.

There can be a problem with the 12v supply to the heater, (if you are on the battery and the voltage drops below what the heater requires the fault will occur, but the lights in the van may still work for instance) the data cable, the port the cable goes into at the heater end (there are two so sometimes swapping to the other one will resolve the problem) the panel its self or, most commonly, the main 12v PCB.

The only way to find out which problem you have is to swap each part out until the problem is solved, don't forget that you may have more than one problem which makes things more tricky.

Fault W402H

This fault will coincide with the fan operating at full speed. The heater has got too hot and is expelling the excess heat through the ducting. The fan will run at high speed until the heater has expelled the excess heat and cooled down to the acceptable level.

It will normally run for a few minutes until it stops and the fault will clear. You may get this in conjunction with the above fault E513H, if it continues to happen then there may be a secondary fault that needs to be investigated. ( a crushed pipe or a blockage in the ducking system)

Fault W407H

This may be a simple one to address, the heater is saying that there is no mains power, normally due to not pressing the mains switch on, or the caravan tripping out the park RCD. If all the simple things have been checked, there is a fuse on the 240v PCB that can blow, but this is hard to get to and will need someone qualified to carry out the work.

The PCB could also be faulty, and there is a reset button in the heater that may have tripped, but this is rare and will normally point to a secondary problem.

I will add more faults as I get them.
